About the person:
Markus Fendt studied biology (diploma) from 1987-1993, majoring in animal physiology, human genetics, botany & physiol. Psychology. After his studies Markus Fendt did his PhD under Michael Koch & Hans-Ulrich Schnitzler at the Department of Animal Physiology at the Eberhard-Karls-University of Tübingen from 1993 to 1997. After a short postdoctoral period at the University of Tübingen and a research stay at Yale University in the USA, he was a junior research group leader at the Chair of Animal Physiology at the University of Tübingen from 1999 to 2006. During this time he was habilitated and received the venia legendi for the department "Animal Physiology". In addition, he was an associate professor there from 2006-2012. In 2006, a professional reorientation also took place: Mr. Fendt moved to Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research in Basel, Switzerland. In 2012, another reorientation took place and since 2012 he has been a research group leader and since 2013 an adjunct professor at Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg.
About the Career Talk:
In his career talk, Markus Fendt will talk about his personal career: how were the transitions in his university career (PhD postdoc junior research group leader) and how did the various reorientations come about (change to Novatis and then university career again). He will also discuss a second dual career: scientist by day and coach in high-performance sports (athletics) in the evenings and on weekends.
The Career Talk will be held in English, but questions can also be asked in German afterwards.
