Genotyping

Here at the LIN, scientists work with many different genetically modified mouse lines. In most cases, different mouse lines are crossed with each other for scientific purposes when breeding new animals. Genotyping of the resulting individual animals is then essential for the scientists to be able to work with the animals.

The Genotyping Unit offers a comprehensive service for this purpose. Our goal is to provide scientists with reliable genotyping results of their animals in a short processing time with high cost efficiency.

Our services include all steps of genotyping, starting with the adaptation or new development of protocols for new mouse lines, the routine transfer of biopsy samples of mice from animal husbandry up to the input of the final results into central animal management databases.

For genotyping, we use PCR-based techniques. For the most part, this is classical end-point PCR, although RT-PCR methods are becoming increasingly important. Sample processing and analysis is supported by semi-automated systems.
