The LIN and the Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at Magdeburg University Hospital have launched the joint "PsychCircuits" initiative. This partnership aims to integrate the latest findings from research directly into clinical practice and patient care.
Vision and mission of PsychCircuits
With the vision of sustainably improving the mental health of the population, PsychCircuits focuses on optimising treatment and prevention strategies based on basic scientific research. The initiative aims to explore brain processes of mental states and thereby improve treatment approaches for people of all ages.
Technological and interdisciplinary approaches
PsychCircuits utilises advanced imaging technologies, circuit research, state-of-the-art omics techniques and artificial intelligence. Through transdisciplinary collaboration in the areas of neuroplasticity, resilience, immunology, genetics and transcriptomics, innovative solutions are developed that directly inform clinical practice.
International and strategic partnerships
Under the motto "Bridging minds for mental health", PsychCircuits creates a strategic link between the University Medical Centre Magdeburg and the Leibniz Institute of Neurobiology. The cooperation also extends to international partners such as the Iowa Neuroscience Institute at the University of Iowa, which promotes the exchange and integration of global research findings.
Long-term goals and contribution to society
PsychCircuits helps to promote mental health and reduce the social and economic consequences of mental illness in the long term. Mental illnesses can be prevented or alleviated at an early stage through improved prevention strategies. In addition, the initiative promotes understanding and education about mental health in society, which contributes to improving public health care.
Kick-off event
The official launch of this initiative is planned for 1 July 2024. To mark the occasion, a kick-off event will be held from 15:00, at which Ted Abel, renowned neuroscientist and founding director of the Iowa Neuroscience Institute, will introduce the topic as keynote speaker. This event marks the beginning of a series of activities aimed at harmonising research and public awareness.
