There are two reasons to celebrate at LIN: Nina Härtwich and Anne Assmann have both been awarded doctoral prizes by Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (OVGU).

Each year, each faculty at OVGU honours the best doctoral thesis, i.e. one that has been graded ‘very good’ and is of exceptional scientific merit and content. This is one of the most important prizes that young researchers at the university can receive.

As a non-university research institute, we have worked closely with OVGU for many years. Many doctoral theses are produced jointly through supervision, laboratory work and ideas from both institutions. When our doctoral students receive a faculty award, this demonstrates not only their personal excellence, but also the effectiveness of our collaboration. We are also grateful that our doctoral students at LIN can rely on the dedicated and exceptional supervision provided by our colleagues.

Klänge im Gehirn

Dr rer nat. Nina Härtwich's research focused on how the brain perceives and processes sounds. She combined various levels of observation, including human research, animal models and computer modelling.

“This award is very important to me because it demonstrates the significance of interdisciplinary fundamental research in neuroscience.” She was able to achieve this by relying on support from many different areas at LIN. That's why the award is also a tribute to the entire team.”

Faszination Gehirn von Beginn an

From the outset of her medical studies, Dr med Anne Assmann has been fascinated by the brain and its processes and structures. At LIN, she found the perfect place to further our understanding of the genetic influences on the development of psychiatric disorders, supported by MRI technology, psychological testing methods, and a strong team.

'I have found the ideal conditions here to truly grasp my subject in depth.' She sees the award as an important signal: ‘It emphasises the relevance of our field of research, and shows appreciation for the work we do here together.’

We congratulate both of them wholeheartedly – and are delighted that their outstanding work at both LIN and OVGU has been recognised and appreciated.
