The publication “SIPA1L2 controls trafficking and local signaling of TrkB-containing amphisomes at presynaptic terminals” by Dr. Anna Karpova and Dr. Michael R. Kreutz from LIN and colleagues in Hamburg, Cambridge and Magdeburg was voted for the best publication in 2019 by Magdeburg neuroscientists.

The authors found out that a subcellular structure that is actually responsible for degradation processes and removal can also transport signalling molecules to active synapses and thus contribute directly to activity-dependent synaptic changes - in other words, a joint venture between in-house mail, supply and disposal at the same time. This work was published in the journal "Nature Communications".
