Review of past events at LIN

09.01.2020 Official assumption of office Prof. Dr. Stefan Remy

In November 2019, Stefan Remy was officially appointed as the new Head of Department and future Director of the Institute by the LIN Board of Trustees and as jointly appointed professor by the Rector of the OVGU. In January 2020, in the presence of Prime Minister Haseloff, Lord Mayor Trümper and other guests, the former director Eckart Gundelfinger was ceremonially bid farewell and the new director was introduced to his office.

09. to 11.09.2019 MCB BrainPlast-Konferenz

The 2nd International MCB BrainPlast Conference „Linking Molecules Cells and Behavior“ was organized by the postdocs of the Leibniz-funded CBBS Science-Campus from 9-11 September 2019 at LIN. The conference attracted excellent scientists from Germany and abroad to Magdeburg.

22.05.2019 SynAGE Symposium

How do synapses age? At the start of the new DFG graduate programme SynAGE, the participating doctoral students, scientists from OVGU, LIN and DZNE met with guests to discuss molecular research on cognitive decline in old age.

13.12.2018 What is consciousness?

What is consciousness? In December 2018 the Italian neuroscientist and psychiatrist Giulio Tononi, Director of the Center for Sleep and Consciousness at the University of Madison-Wisconsin,
was appointed as Leibniz Chair and gave his inaugural lecture on sleep and consciousness at LIN.

20. to 22.06.2018 Treffen der Leibniz-Doktorandenvertreter

The first interdisciplinary meeting of PhD student representatives from all Leibniz institutes took place at LIN under the title "Chances and challenges of interdisciplinary research".

23. to 25.05.2018 Functional Architecture of Memory Conference

From 23 to 25 May 2018, hippocampus researchers from around the world met at LIN for the fourth International Conference on Functional Architecture of Memory, organized by Magdalena Sauvage and her colleagues.

23.06.2017 25th anniversary

In 2017 the LIN celebrated its 25th anniversary with a ceremony in the presence of the Prime Minister of Saxony-Anhalt, the Mayor of Magdeburg, the President of the Leibniz Association and many other guests and former colleagues. Onur Güntürkün from the Ruhr University Bochum held a very entertaining lecture on the development of learning and memory research during the last 25 years and highlighted LIN’s contribution to it.

27. to 28.02.2017 Meeting of the Leibniz Research Alliance „Healthy Ageing“

More than 120 scientists attended the LIN for the biennial meeting of the Leibniz Research Alliance „Healthy Ageing“ from February 27 to 28, 2017. They discussed
interdisciplinary perspectives on healthy ageing and demographic changes. Molecular biologists, psychologists, brain researchers but also geographers, sports scientists
or economists from 21 Leibniz institutes came to the conference and discussed with guests from Canada and Austria.

20.10.2016 Between empty space and the best of all possible worlds: Guericke and Leibniz and the development of science

As a contribution to the Leibniz Year 2016, LIN showed how the concept of science has changed over the past centuries, which role practical relevance and social acceptance played for science then and now, and how the profession of scientist has changed.

26.04.2016 On the way to the European Capital of Culture

With an event on the importance of science for the culture of a city, LIN has supported Magdeburg's application to become European Capital of Culture 2025. Our guests were the director of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation, Claudia Perren, and the director of the German Institute of Urban Affairs Berlin, Martin zur Nedden.
